The occasion commenced with a formal ceremony honouring the university's achievements, followed by a conference dedicated to maritime and ocean sustainability.

Mr. Kitack Lim, Chancellor of the University and Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, recognised outgoing President, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, for her contribution to the university during the past 8 years.

The celebrations highlighted the university's four-decade journey, emphasising its dedication to maritime and ocean sustainability with a dedicated conference.

As it enters a new phase, WMU continues to play a vital role in promoting ocean preservation and advancing global collaboration in the maritime sector.

The conference fostered discussions among global experts, emphasising strategies for a responsible maritime industry - affirming the university's commitment to shaping a sustainable future and nurturing maritime leaders.

AMSA Environment and Strategy Principal Advisor Annalisse Skelton attended the event as a member of WMU's Board of Governors, which also held the 41st Board of Governors meeting which amongst other things, agreed on the WMU's 2024-2027 Strategic Plan.

AMSA sponsors international scholarships at the WMU and Annalisse had the opportunity to meet with scholarship recipients from the Indo-Pacific Region, including Fiji, Solomon Islands, the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
