Search for overdue aircraft in Queensland

Sunday 3 February 2013
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is coordinating a search for an overdue ultralight aircraft around 24 kilometres north-west of Caboolture in Queensland.
Media Release

At 11:44 AM (QLD Time) on Sunday 3 February 2013, AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) received a phone call from an official of the Caboolture Aero Club to advise that a female solo pilot of an ultralight aircraft had failed to return from a flight this morning.

After making inquiries with police, local aerodromes and Air Traffic Control, RCC Australia today coordinated an extensive search involving six helicopters, an AMSA fixed-wing Dornier aircraft, and a police ground party in a search area north-west of Caboolture.

There will be a limited search overnight with a helicopter (using night vision goggles). If the pilot is not located overnight the search will continue on Monday 4 February.

AMSA will send a number of officers to the search location to assist coordinate search efforts.
