AMSA assists IMO at maritime forums in the Republic of Korea

Monday 5 May 2014
The 8th International Maritime Forum and an International Maritime Organization (IMO) regional e-navigation seminar were held on 23 April (in Seoul) and 25 April 2014 (in the port city of Busan) respectively.
Existing electronic navigational aids – a precursor to e-navigation

Some 180 delegates from 27 different countries attended the maritime forum, which was hosted by the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA).

AMSA provided a technical expert to support the IMO at both events, which were successful in raising awareness of current IMO developments on e-navigation and the required future work at IMO to progress e-navigation.

The various presentations made at both events provoked thought and discussion amongst delegates on some of the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead and actions required in their own countries to implement e-navigation.
